THE MUSTACHE ERA: WHY EVERYONE IS SUDDENLY SHAVING EVERYTHING ELSE
There was a week recently where it felt like every guy I saw had the same idea.
Gym? Mustache only.
TikTok? Mustache only.
Night out? Half the room: mustache only.
Not the old uncle-style one with no shape. I’m talking clean jawline, shaved cheeks, little strip of hair sitting confidently above the lip like it pays rent there.

It’s almost like guys held a secret meeting and decided, “You know what? Full beard, we’ve done enough. Let’s try something unserious.”
But the thing is… it doesn’t actually look unserious.
On the right face and with the right fit, it looks intentional.
HOW DID WE GET HERE ?
Well, we’ve had a long beard journey as men.
• The full-beard era – gym bros and tech bros competing for who could grow the thickest forest.
• The sharp line-up era – barbers using rulers on jawlines, everything darkened with pencil.
• The clean-shave comeback – people got tired and went baby-face again for a bit of peace.
Now, the mustache-only thing feels like the remix nobody really saw coming.
It doesn’t demand the same maintenance as a full beard, but it still gives identity. It doesn’t shout, “I’m a serious man,” the way a big beard sometimes does. It just sits there; a little playful, a little cocky, almost cinematic.

With everything in fashion quietly looping back into retro, it kind of makes sense that the throwback energy is starting to show up on the face too.
BUT ITS A BOLD MOVE STILL, OBVIOUSLY
Let’s be honest: part of this whole wave is face card confidence.
To wear just a mustache, you kind of have to believe your face can carry it. There’s nowhere to hide. No beard to sharpen your jaw, no shadows to slim your cheeks. It’s just you, your upper lip, and reality.
But that’s exactly why people like it.
• It feels bold, but low-key.
• It gives personality, without heavy effort.
• It makes guys feel a bit main-character, like they just walked out of a film set.
There’s also a little inside joke in it. A mustache-only man looks like he doesn’t mind being slightly less uptight. He might work a serious job, but visually he’s saying, “Relax, I’m still a person.”
STYLE IMPACT
From a style point of view, the mustache is not just facial hair, it’s part of the outfit.
It changes how:
• Caps sit on you (suddenly that low cap + mustache combo feels like you’re hiding in plain sight).
• Sunglasses look (round frames and mustache? Dangerous combo).
• Necklines behave – ringer tees, open collars, zip hoodies slightly open at the top; they all frame the face differently when there’s a mustache holding the centre.

Because the lower half of the face is clean, the upper lip becomes a design detail.
In photos, your face looks sharper, expressions read louder, even a small smirk becomes an accessory.
You can throw on simple fits – white tee, denim, loafers or sneakers – and the mustache gives enough character that you don’t need crazy colours or logos. It’s like wearing a tiny piece of jewellery directly on your face.
To me, this mustache wave says a lot about where guys are mentally.
We’re slowly moving away from that heavy, over-curated masculinity – the one that always has to prove strength, dominance & seriousness. There’s more room now for play, softness, weirdness, experimentation.
WHAT THIS MEANS TO US IN THE TOL UNIVERSE
Tug Of Looks has always been about vibe first, label second. And face is a big part of vibe.
When you step into this mustache era, your wardrobe starts to shift naturally:
• You might reach more for ringer tees and open collars that frame the neck and jaw.
• Caps and beanies suddenly feel like part of the character, not just accessories.
• You might lean into cleaner fits – calm colours, sharper silhouettes – because your face is already doing some of the talking.

That’s why, when we’re curating pieces – hats, shirts, outerwear – we’re low-key thinking about the faces that will be wearing them. The mustache era just makes that even more interesting.
Are we all keeping it forever?
Will the mustache-only era last? Honestly, trends come and go. Some guys will shave it off next week. Some will keep it and it becomes part of who they are.
But this moment is fun to watch because it says something bigger:
Guys are learning they’re allowed to play with their look again – not just their clothes, but their faces too.
So if you’ve been side-eyeing the mirror, thinking about joining the mustache club… this is your sign. Worst-case scenario? You don’t like it and it grows back.
Best case?
You unlock a version of yourself that feels a little more interesting than yesterday.
